Anthony R. “Tony” Bender, age 54, of Lorain, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 at Mercy Regional Medical Center following COVID complications.
A life-long resident of Lorain, Tony was born September 20, 1966 and graduated from Southview High School in 1984.
For 34 years, Tony worked as a stock clerk in the grocery business that began at Fazio’s grocery store in Oakwood Shopping Center then transitioned to Rini Rigo Supermarket. For the past 28 years he has been working at the Giant Eagle in Westlake.
He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. Tony enjoyed watching football and wrestling and was a huge country music fan.
Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Carol (nee Farsetti); parents, Raymond and Clara (nee Stanziano) Bender of Lorain; a brother, Joseph of Lorain; and sisters, Rae (Phil) Lundeen of Brighton, Colorado and Nina (David) Ramirez of Riverside, California.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, Lorain. Rev. John Retar, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Facial covering and social distancing will be required in the funeral home and at church.
