Yolanda Salas (nee Silva), age 84, of Lorain, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at White Orchid Senior Adult Family Home in Avon Lake.
She was born on August 20, 1941, in Monterrey, Mexico. In 1949, her late parents, Jose M. and Petra (nee Trevino) Silva, brought her to Saginaw, Michigan, where she lived until moving to Lorain in 1951. Yolanda spent 15 years living in Omaha, Nebraska, before returning to Lorain in 2007.
Yolanda worked as a nurse’s aide at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain and at thrift stores while she lived in Omaha.
An active member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, she served as a Eucharistic minister and was involved with the Guadalupe Society. Each week, Yolanda graciously baked desserts for everyone to enjoy after Mass.
She volunteered at New Life Hospice in Lorain and enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family. Family barbecues and playing games such as LCR and cards with loved ones brought her great joy.
Yolanda is survived by her children, Annette (Eduardo) Aponte, Jose (Deanna) Rodriguez, and Juan (Carol) Rodriguez; grandchildren, Dominic Alicea, Eduardo Aponte Jr., Orlando Aponte, Jose Rodriguez, and Fina Nicholson; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Lupe Villarreal and Jose Villarreal; and sisters, Martha Lopez and Maria Sepulveda.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jose B. Alicea, in 1982, and second husband, Frederico G. Salas, in 2007; and a sister, Idalia Salas, in 2005.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 5th, from 8:30 am until the time of Mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Alexander C. Spenik, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
