Shirley Gerbracht, age 85, formerly of Gates Mills, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 4th at The Woods on French Creek in Avon, Ohio.
She was born June 24, 1935 to Walter and Minnie Lee (Nowell) Dillon in South Bend, Indiana. Growing up she enjoyed gymnastics, dance, theater and voice, as well as the companionship of her beloved dog, Skipper. Shirley attended St. Mary’s college where she studied the Classics.
A stay at home mom, Shirley was devoted to her 7 children spending countless hours singing, reading books, teaching them to swim, play tennis, ride bikes and cook. She loved the outdoors and took the children on hikes and other adventures through the woods and in the creeks. After her children went off to college, Shirley ventured into Real Estate and other work that interested her.
Shirley was an active member of her church, the Christ Child Society, DAR, Red Cross Blood drives and numerous other activities in her community. She was involved in Counseling and always had an open ear for anyone.
A woman of many talents, she enjoyed sewing, tennis, fishing, skeet-shooting, needlepoint, decoupage, gardening, animal watching. She bred Wire-Haired Dachshunds and became a great handler of the show dogs and was Champion many times.
Surviving are her children, Robert Michael (Mary) Gerbracht, Thomas Dillon (Kim) Gerbracht, Elizabeth (Jim) Clark, John Charles Gerbracht, Patrick Dillon (Cari) Gerbracht, Kathleen (John) Stamps and Richard Michael Gerbracht as well as her 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 6850 Mayfield Rd, Gates Mills, Ohio. Live stream is available during that time at www.stfrancisgm.org. Private burial services will be held at a later date.
