Sharon Vanderson, age 81 of Elyria, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026 surrounded by her family at New Life Hospice in Lorain.
Born November 3, 1944, to Maxine Buckman in Elyria, Ohio, Sharon lived in the area her entire life. For over 25 years, she worked as a nursing assistant with Rae Ann in Westlake. She also worked at the Elyria Foundry for 13 years.
Sharon was a loving mother, devoted to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and was always willing to help others. She enjoyed traveling, going to casinos and especially enjoyed shopping at Drug Mart and Marcs. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family especially during the holidays.
Surviving are her daughters, Sheila (Robert) Smith and Terri Maben (and her companion Gerald); grandchildren, Robert J. “Mookie” Smith, Jordan Smith, Sydney Smith, Summer Smith, Charna Maben, Andreus (India) Maben, Devin (Brianna) Maben, Clayvon Johnson, and Shadaria Johnson, as well as 8 great grandchildren; 2 great-great granddaughters as well as many cousins.
She was preceded in death by a daughter at birth; mother, Maxine Buckman; special aunts, Frances Carin and Patsy Burgett; maternal grandparents, Julius and Heddy Vanderson and her loving companion L. C. Robertson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 23 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery. To send online condolences, go to www.dovinfcs.com.
