Rita Garcia, 77, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to her family and community.
Born to the late Augustine Garcia Sr. and Helen Garcia, Rita graduated from Admiral King High School in 1967 and later earned her associate degree in Early Childhood Development from Lorain County Community College. She dedicated her career to caring for and educating children at Glenview Center for Childcare and Learning through the Bay Village Board of Education, retiring in 2012.
Rita attended Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain where she was a devoted member of the Guadalupe Society and taught religious education classes. She served as a Cub Scout den mother and was a cherished godmother to many.
Rita enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, and especially making Halloween costumes for her nieces and nephews. Loving, funny, outspoken, and wonderfully strong-willed, she had a generous heart and a special way of making lasting memories with those she loved. Although she had no children of her own, she embraced her role as an aunt and godmother wholeheartedly, touching the lives of countless children throughout her life.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Augustine “Gus” Garcia Jr.; and her nephew, Matthew Garcia.
She is survived by her siblings, Daniel (Anita) Garcia, Patricia (Ronald) Dickinson, Olga Sanchez, Helen Garcia, and Marco Garcia; along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family members, and friends.
