Richard E. Bennington, age 82, of Lorain, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Mercy New Life Hospice after a long illness, leaving behind a life that touched many.
He was born August 1, 1944, in Massillon, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Esther Bennington (née Hudson). He graduated from Lorain Admiral King High School and retired from Republic Steel in Lorain in 2001 with 43 years of service.
Richard enjoyed boating and fishing for walleye and perch on Lake Erie, as well as hunting wild game in Ohio, reflecting his love for outdoor pursuits and nature.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Faye (née Rorrer); his sons, Wesley (Sharon) Bennington and Richard C Bennington, both of Lorain; six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ronald (Michele) Bennington and Tom (Jan) Bennington; and his sister, Myrtle (Leroy) Bradley.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Bob” Bennington and Martin “Marty” Bennington.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM at Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue in Lorain. Rev. Lorri Bandagski of Bethel Chapel will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
