Raymond Patrick Bender

Raymond Patrick Bender, age 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 6, 2022 at his residence under the care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice.

Born March 1, 1932 to Modestus and Dorothy (nee Conrad) Bender in Patton, Pennsylvania, Raymond moved to Lorain in 1951.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954 where he was stationed on Long Island, New York and earned the rank of Corporal.  Following his enlistment, he worked for Ford in Brookpark until his retirement in 1991 with 42 years of service.  He was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain.

He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his wife as well as attending car shows and was always tinkering in the garage.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Clara (nee Stanziano) Bender; children, Rae (Phil) Lundeen, Joseph Bender and Nina (David) Ramirez; daughter in-law, Carol Bender; grandchildren, Tori, Aly, Nick, Rebecca, Davey and Nathan as well as his siblings, Anthony (Millie) Bender, Myrtle (late Eddie) McKee, Loretta (late Chuck) Wilt, Dolly (late Robert) Haid, Bernard (Peggy) Bender, Irvin (Jean) Bender, and Margie (Roger) Crist.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Bender; both of his parents as well as his brothers, Albert, Harry, Edwin, Wilfred, Leo, and Joseph, and sisters; Mary, Susan, Ruth and Anna.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 12 from 2 – 7 p.m. at Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain.  Rev. Neil Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
