Raul Agosto

Raul Agosto Sr., age 87 of Lorain, fought a lengthy illness for many years until he passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.

Born October 3, 1936, to Berto and Celestina Davila Agosto in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, Raul moved to Lorain in 1957.  He worked for Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 30 years before his retirement in 1996 and was a member of the UAW 425.  Raul also worked for Hoag’s Greenhouse in Sheffield.

He enjoyed gardening where he grew delicious, giant tomatoes, zucchini, green peppers, cilantro and cucumbers, some of which were featured in the Morning Journal.  Raul was a great cook and was known for his delicious Puerto Rican stew as well as his rice and beans.  He also enjoyed fishing as well as playing cards and dominos with his sister Conrada and friends.  Raul was always smiling and cracking jokes.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Maria (nee Rodriguez) Agosto; son, Raul (Diane) Agosto Jr.; daughters, Maggie Agosto and Sarita Agosto; grandchildren, Melissa (Antonio) Marrero, Matthew (Jessy) Agosto, Selina Crum and Amanda Agosto Noel as well as all his great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Roberto Agosto; both of his parents; brothers, Erasmo Davila Agosto, Felin Davila Agosto, Pellin Davila Agosto, Justo Davila Agosto and Santo Davila Agosto as well as his sisters, Conrada Davila Agosto-Solis, Amelia Davila Agosto, Mayo Davila Agosto, Mercedes Davila Agosto and Angelina Davila Agosto.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain.  Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain.  Rev. William Thaden will officiate.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
