Ramon Alvarado

Ramon "Chief" Alvarado, born on April 2, 1953, in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully at his residence in Lorain, Ohio on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family. His journey from his childhood home in Puerto Rico to a life built on hard work, love, and service in Ohio stands as a testament to his enduring strength of character and the warmth of his spirit.

Ramon’s legacy is most deeply rooted in his family, whom he cherished above all. He was the beloved husband of 51 years to Carmen Alvarado, whose partnership was the cornerstone of his life. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising three sons—Jose Alvarado, Miguel (Ani) Alvarado, and Luis (Sara) Alvarado—and a daughter, Melodie (Tim) Dages as well as 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Ramon was also a cherished brother to Victor Alvarado, Angel (Kim) Alvarado, Luis (Raysa) Alvarado, and Samuel Alvarado, as well as Aida (Victor) Alvarado, Maria Rosas, and Carmen (Norberto) Alvarado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo Alvarado and Jovina Alvarado, brothers Rafael and Geraldo Alvarado, and sister Ana Alvarado, whose memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

A dedicated steel worker, Ramon gave over 36 years of hard work to Elyria Foundry and Republic Steel, retiring in 2015. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his loyalty and work ethic, values he quietly instilled in those around him. Colleagues, friends, and neighbors admired him not only for his dedication but also for his kindness and reliability.

Outside of work, Ramon found joy in many pursuits. His greatest joy and pride was playing his guitar, where he would play in the choir as well as many other events, touching hearts each time he shared his music. He was also known for his love of fishing, playing horseshoes and dominos, and the adventure of camping. Christmastime held a special place in his heart, whether he was Christmas caroling with friends or hosting exuberant holiday gatherings for his family. A lover of the open road, he delighted in riding his motorcycle whenever he had the chance.

Ramon’s generosity and warmth radiated to everyone he encountered. He was known for visiting loved ones and never arriving empty-handed, always bringing bread, bananas, or candy to share. His heart was most full around family, where he found happiness simply being together, sharing laughter, and making memories that will endure.

Faith guided Ramon throughout his life. An active member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, he contributed meaningfully to the church community. Ramon began giving his time many years ago driving the church bus. Later, he played guitar in the choir, lending his musical talents during worship, and was proud to serve in the ministry of funerals.

Family and friends will have an opportunity to remember and honor Ramon during visitation on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dovin Funeral And Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Ave, Lorain, OH. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave, Lorain, OH, immediately followed by a Mass at 9:30 a.m. at the same location. Rev. Alexander C. Spenik of Sacred Heart Chapel will officiate. Burial will follow at New Russia Township Cemetery.

Ramon Alvarado’s generous spirit, unwavering dedication, and deep love for his family and community have left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of kindness, music, and devotion lives on in the hearts of those who carry his memory forward.
