Opal Dean Jefferys

Opal Dean Jefferys, age 96, passed away peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, May 10 at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake, Ohio.

Opal Dean was born in Kingwood, West Virginia to James Harvey and Ora D. Christman on August 2, 1924.  She moved to Elyria Township in 1952 and was a much-loved member of Broadway Assembly Church for 60 years.  She was also a long-time participant in Women’s Ministries and loved to sing hymns.  After working at the church for many years, Opal Dean retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, aunt and friend, she enjoyed family gatherings, camping, cooking treats for her family, friends and neighbors as well as listening to her Christian hymns on her tape player.

She is survived by her sons, Richard (Bari Lynn) of Waynesville, NC, Charles (Bonnie) of Oakwood, OH and Woody of Elyria Township, OH; daughters, Pam Sivnksty of Fairmont, WV and Sharon (Tim) Jarrett of Summerfield, FL; sisters, Bernice Didio of Baltimore, MD and Barbara Tennyson of Chesapeake, VA.  She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, all much loved.

Opal Dean was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Woodford (Windy) Jefferys; both of her parents; brothers, Clifton and Louis as well as her sisters, Vivian, Betty and Leona.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 14 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 12:00 p.m. at Broadway Assembly Church, 5495 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio (masks are recommended). Pastor Matt Jones will officiate.  Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
