Nelson G. "Chief" Dunfee, age 73, of Huron, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, at Mercy Health Lorain Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born June 16, 1949, in Barnesville, Ohio, he lived in Elyria and Lorain before moving to Huron 40 years ago.
Chief worked 41 years as a truck driver, retiring from Pierre Foods in 2002.
He enjoyed motorcycle riding and working on cars.
He leaves behind his wife, 25 years, to cherish his memory, Shiela (nee Pillivant); his sons, Eric (Pat) Dunfee, Joseph Carpenter, Nelson (Tracie) Dunfee Jr., Darryl (Judy) Carpenter, and Jeff Long; daughters, Wendy Brubaker, Valerie Rose, and Lorie (Johnny) Dunfee-Lopez; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Neil Dunfee and Norman Dunfee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Nellie (Neptune) Dunfee; and sisters, Delores Mellott, Dorothy "Golden" Carpenter, and Velma Skidmore.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens Avon.
