Mary R. Scherfling (nee Swogger), 75 of Lorain, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born June 11, 1939 in Connellsville, Penn, she came to live in Lorain in 1954. In 1959 she moved to San Diego until returning to Lorain in 1964. Then in 1978 she moved back to San Diego and again returning to Lorain in 1988 where she has lived since.
Mary enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians, her two cats, and collecting dolls and trinket boxes.
Surviving is her husband of 55 years, Dale; a son, Scott (Osiris) Scherfling of San Diego; and a grandson, Dylan Medina; sisters, Patricia (Gerald) Winters of Phoenix, Arizona and Betty Miller of El Paso, Texas, many cousins, including Bill and Laura Berg, Susan VanWinkle, and her children, Gina Strausser, Jason VanWinkle, Tommy and Michael Collins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen L. and Mary F. (nee Doneyho) Swogger; and her aunt and uncle Ada and Gilbert Berg.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
