Mary T. Derfiny, age 88, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at her home, on Friday, October 25th, 2013.
She was born on January 25, 1925, in Lorain where she lived her entire life and was a graduate of Lorain High School.
Mary worked at Elyria Memorial Hospital as a L.P.N. for a number of years before she retired. Previous to that, she worked for the phone company for many years. Mary was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She enjoyed gardening and reading, which she always involved with her local book club. She also collected cookbooks and various recipes, and in her younger years, she enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Mary would volunteer her time at the polls during elections as well as assisting the elderly ladies in her neighborhood by running errands with them or getting them to various appointments.
Mary is survived by her niece, Judy Eastman, of Chino Hills, CA, 2 great nephews; James and Christopher, and her close friend, Bernadette Bascone, of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Steven and Anna (nee Kovak) Derfiny, and her 2 sisters; Anne Mitchell, in 1997 and Cecelia Begreen, in 2006.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 31, 2013, for graveside services at 11:00 am, at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Richard E.
