Martha M. Kowalczyk
Martha M. Kowalczyk (nee Lukesic) age 76, of Lorain, passed away June 16, 2021 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a sudden illness.
Born November 23, 1944 in Lorain, she lived in Lorain her entire life. Martha attended Lorain High School then transferred to Admiral King High School during her senior year where she was a member of the school’s first graduating class in 1962.
Following high school, Martha worked as a beautician and manager of Darla’s Beauty Salon. As she raised her family, she continued to work while attending Ashland University. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in teaching, Martha began teaching at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish School in their mobile unit. She then taught at Boone Elementary School in Lorain followed by Avon Elementary Schools. Martha retired from her 30-year teaching career in 2010.
She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish and Lake Erie Moose Lodge. Martha enjoyed cooking.
Surviving are her sons, Bryan (Lisa Short) and Matthew both of Lorain; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, David in 2018; and her parents, Nicholas and Martha (nee Matic) Lukesic.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by Mass at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
My sincere sympathy to Martha's family. She was a sweet loving woman. Martha was a fellow graduate of the class of 1962. She added so much to our class get togethers, alway friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed our visits. She will be missed. Again, my sincere sympathy to her all those who loved her.

Matt, Bryan and Family. I am truly sorry about the loss of your mother. Martha was a one of a kind woman. She loved you all dearly! She was always so sweet to me since I was a young girl.
