Maria Jones

Maria “Mary” Jones (nee Gonzalez), age 93, of Lorain, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin following a short illness.

Born May 5, 1932, in Lorain to Jesus and Teresa (nee Moreno) Gonzalez, she was a lifelong resident of the city.

Mary worked as a preschool teacher at Lorain Head Start for 19 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, and loved gardening, music, singing and dancing.

Surviving are her sons, Joseph (Anna) Alicea, Jesse (Suzanne) Alicea, Michael (Kathy) Alicea, Daniel (Patty) Alicea, and Adam Alicea; daughters, Lydia Tolley, Lucille Alicia, Eugenia (Bill) Bay, Anna Ridenour, Mary Alicea and Megan (Charles) Robart; 28 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, and 23 great-great grandchildren; and brothers, Ramon Gonzalez and Arthur Gonzalez.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Roy Jones in 2012; both of her parents; brothers, Jesse Gonzalez, Manuel Gonzalez, Fred Gonzalez, Ignatius Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez, Manuel Gonzalez and Enrique Gonzalez; and sisters, Ysaura Ybarra, Theresa Bodjo, and Consuelo Gonzalez.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Robert Sanson will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
