Luisa Roman (nee Reyes), age 89, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Avon Lake Towne Center following a lengthy illness.
Born August 8, 1932 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1958. She later moved to Brooklyn, New York where she lived for 8 years before returning to Lorain in 1969.
Luisa, along with her late husband Claudino, owned and operated Roman’s Grocery in South Lorain for 29 years, an essential part of the community that continues with their sons operating the business.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Luisa loved to help take care of her grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons, Carlos Roman and James Roman both of Lorain, and Ricardo Roman of Sheffield Village; grandchildren, James A. Roman, Jerica Contreras, Cristina Mitchell, Carlos I. Roman Jr., Melissa Roman, Anthony Roman and Brandon Roman; 10 great grandchildren; and a brother, Gelo Reyes of New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Claudino in 2008; parents, Justo and Angela Reyes; brothers, Justo Reyes and Angel Reyes and sisters, Ana Teresa Campos-Reyes, Angelica Reyes and Selenia Reyes-Pujals.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden will officiate. Burial will take place in La Santa Cruz Cemetery in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
