John Strasko

June 11, 1911 — August 24, 2005

John Strasko, age 94, of Elyria, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.


Born on June 11, 1911 in Donora, PA, he then moved to Europe with his family in 1916 before moving to Lorain in 1928.


He was employed in the Power House at US Steel for 46 years, retiring in 1973.


He was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lorain and also was a member of the Steel Workers Union Local #1104. John was also a founding member of the Lake Erie Squares, where he attended square dancing conventions in US and Canada for several years. He also enjoyed dancing with Tappan Squares of Lorain County. He was a charter member of Beaver Creek Boat Club, where he was an avid boater and built 4 wooden boats.


He is survived by his son: John S. Strasko of Elyria, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife Ann (nee Zatroch) in 1990, daughter: Mary Ann Uszak in 2003, brother: Nicholas Strasko and sister: Barbara Czocko.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 33rd Street and Pearl Avenue, Lorain, Rev. Laurie Miller, pastor will officiate.
The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
