John Rivera Junior, 44, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away Tuesday April 7th surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his parents Maria and John, his partner, Ben, and his siblings, Veronica, Abbigail and Jeannette. He had devoted over 20 years of his life to Our Lady of the Wayside and most recently worked for Freeman Manufacturing.
Johnboy was a beloved son, brother, uncle, a devoted partner to Ben, and a proud part of a big family who loved him deeply. Although his time with us ended far too soon, there was never a shortage of love. Johnboy was one of those people that truly lit up every room he walked in. He carried himself with a confidence and flair that made him unforgettable. A true trendsetter and icon to friends and family leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a spirit that couldn’t be dimmed. He had a voice and smile that stuck with you, and brought fun wherever he went. His presence truly was intoxicating and felt like a warm hug you never wanted to end.
He shared a beautiful life with Ben. One of their happiest places to go was camping where the two of them could just be themselves and enjoy the world together. He also had a huge heart for animals, loving them with the same warmth and care he gave to the people in his life. More than anything he taught us how to show up as ourselves, how to love deeply, and how to find joy wherever we can. In his honor, we remember the happy moments and celebrate the love and light he brought to those around him. On the evening of his passing a beautiful sunset filled the sky, a quiet and fitting farewell to someone gone but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Friendship APL in John’s memory, a cause that was dear to him.
