I feel so incredibly blessed and grateful to have had this amazing man in my life. Having him for a history teacher in 8th grade was just the beginning. I struggled with my parents divorce and the relationship I had with my own father and Jim was always there to listen or set me straight! He was there for me through my high school years, he was there on my wedding day and although we lived far away from each other I knew he and his family were there for me if I were to need anything. We exchanged letters, cards and photos of our children and his grandson. He was always so proud of his family. Although he never met my children they know who Mr. Sams is. They knew how special he was to me. I'm so thankful that I got to say goodbye to him. I made the 5 hour drive to tell him thank you. Thank you for being there, thank you for guiding me when I was an impressionable teenager, thank you for showing me what unconditional love is, for never missing an opportunity to tell me you were proud of me, proud of how I turned out, for the hugs, the cards and sharing your family with me. You will forever be in my heart and a part of me. I will never ever forget telling you goodbye, thank you and that I loved you and hearing you whisper, "I love you too". I'll see you again someday, that I know for sure!

Our blessings are sent to Beverly and family of Jim Sams.Unfortunately, due to distance we are unable to personally attend the Services. We will cherish our fond memories of Jim, as our last visits with him, was when he was well. Jim was ALWAYS kind and friendly to us, and often would have an interesting story of his teaching, boating and managing experiences.God Bless you Jim;Doug & Lynn BettsThermopolis, Wyoming

Jim and I grew up on West Spring Street and at Norwood School. We spent many hours together. At times we chased the same girls. I am sorry for Jim's passing but glad to hear some details about his long and fulfilling life. Our love to his family from our family here in Arizona. Love, Brent Richard "Dick" Green

Mr. Sams, as I will always remember him, was without a doubt the teacher who had the greatest positive impact on me as a middle-schooler in Bay Village. His unique ability to challenge your thinking, while making you feel respected was a game changer for me. After my year with him (1973) I was a history buff for life. I went back and visited him a number of times as I went on to Northwestern, graduated and did post-graduate studies in Chinese History. I always felt he got a genuine lift from seeing how his pupils progressed over the years and it was always great to catch up with him. In reading his obituary I am not at all surprised to see what a rich and respected life he lead outside of the classroom. I would expect nothing less from a man of his caliber. I am very sorry for the huge loss Mr. Sams must be for your family, but I am also sure that you must appreciate what a fantastic man he was and how many people he touched. With deepest condolences and appreciation,John Steward
