Helen A. Hennes (nee Rak), 92, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015.
Helen , mom and gramma was a complete anamoly. If you ever waited for her to call you you would still be waiting. She was strong willed but always put family first. She was a talented seamstress and a fabulous quilter. Her frugal nature inspired her first quilting project. She received a Christmas braid that she preceded to take apart and put to better use as her first quilting project.
Helen and Gerald, her husband of 57 years, shared adventures on matching motorcycles or riding the roller coaster at Cedar Point but she was happiest as a passenger. He drove her everywhere they went in Ohio, to Texas or to Colorado to see family. Gerald was the love of her life. If any man ever looked her way after Gerald died, she was totally put off.
Helen was an LPN at St. Joseph Hospital for 25 years and she was a caregiver without equal. She cared for her great grandchildren, Kryan,Camille and Isabella for the last 5 years of her life.
She is survived by her son, Edward of Lorain, daughter, Geraldine Gerdes of Colorado Springs, CO, 9 grandchildren, Michelle, Lisa and Edward Hennes, Denis, Geoffrey, Suzanne, Sean, Julia and Jonathan Gerdes and 9 great grandchildren, Jonathan, Talon, Caleb Gerdes, Savanna and Saxton Tess, William Gerdes, Kyran Blewitt, Camille Mahone, and Isabella Lockhart.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain, where Rev.
