Gregory S. “Greg” Vanderhoof, age 54, passed away at his home in Kansas City, Missouri, on Monday, August 23, 2021, following a sudden illness.
Born April 21, 1967, in Lorain to Merlin and Rose (née Fenton) Vanderhoof, he was raised in Sheffield Lake. After graduating from Lorain Catholic High School in 1985, Greg served in the US Army for 5 years where he received many commendations and medals including the Army Service Ribbon with rifle expert badge, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and Army Commendation.
Following the service, Greg returned to Lorain and began working for Ford Motor Company in Avon, later transferring with Ford to Kansas City, Missouri where he has lived since. Greg was currently employed as an armed guard at Remote Rick Management in Kansas City.
Greg had a passion for his two sons, family, hunting, football and his country.
Besides his parents who reside in Wakeman, he is also survived by his sons, Gregory S. Vanderhoof Jr. of Kansas City and Nick M. Vanderhoof of Wyoming as well as his brothers, Daniel of Lorain and David of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas “Doug” in 2003.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 4th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Neil Walters of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Lorain will officiate followed by military honors.
