Gloria María Gomez

August 25, 1944 — September 26, 2022

In loving memory of Gloria María Gomez (nee Rivera), 78, who was called home by our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 26, 2022, after a long battle with dementia.

Gloria was born on August 25, 1944, in Coamo, Puerto Rico to Celestino Rivera and Gudelia Rivera. She endured many hardships throughout her childhood and in 1961 she met and married the love of her life and created a family she cherished and to whom she was incredibly devoted.

The room lit up as soon as she entered with her beautiful smile and warm personality.

With a house full of children, she always made sure there was laughter and wonderful big meals.  Family was her main focus.  She worried about them, protected them, supported them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them.  Fiercely dedicated, she had an immense impact on the lives of her seven children by always being present in school activities, plays, parent-teacher conferences, etc.  She gave of her time selflessly for her children, her husband or anyone in need. It can be said Gloria was unselfish to a fault.  Often neglecting the needs of herself for the well-being of her friends and family.

Gloria was a dedicated and active member of Sacred Heart Chapel for many years participating in the Cursillo and Legion of Mary.  She had immense faith in Our Lord.

Although she held many titles, an imprint has been left on our hearts by her loyalty and strength as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Gloria will be deeply missed by many.

Gloria is survived by her children, Zulma (John), Chris (Kirk), Margie (Osvaldo Sr), Laurie (Bruce), and Eva (Daniel); siblings, Eddie, Carmen, Hector, Bill (Velda), and Elba; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria is preceded in death by her loving husband, Julian N. Gomez Sr. in 2020; her parents; son, Julian Jr.; daughter, Alicia; granddaughter, Bianca; grandsons, Christopher and Julius; sister, Nilda; and brother, Cel.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 4th from 8:30 am until the time of Mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
