Gilberto Romero

March 29, 1960 — January 11, 2021

Gilberto Romero, age 60, of Lorain, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Meadows of Osborne Park nursing facility in Huron, Ohio as a result of Covid-19 and a lengthy battle of early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease. 

He was born March 29, 1960 at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain.  Gilbert graduated from Southview High School class of 1979 where he was involved in wrestling and took vocational welding.  He helped his family run several businesses including Putting on the Ritz, Things from New York and the Gulf gas station on Oberlin Avenue in Lorain. Gilbert was also part owner of Black Diamond Limousine with his cousin, Gilbert Ortiz. He worked for P.C. Campana and NASA Glenn Research Center as a Senior Research Lab Technician.  Gilbert was also involved with the Democratic party.

Gilbert enjoyed traveling annually for the youth robotics competitions sponsored by NASA.  He also enjoyed music, dancing and comedy, especially watching The Three Stooges.  Above all, Gilbert cherished spending time with his family, including taking his son Gilbert Paul to car shows as well as working on cars together.  He treasured his wife Christina; they loved spending time together.

Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Christina (nee Glova) Romero; his cherished daughter and son, Angelica Romero and Gilbert P. Romero; granddaughters, Natalya, Cecilia, Scarlett and Analeigh; grandson, Gilbert “Gilly” and brothers, Richard, Robert and Maico Romero.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Julia (nee Colon) Romero and brothers, Antonio ‘Papo’ Cruz and Noel Romero.

Due to Covid-19, private services will be held for the family.
