Fermina Lopez (nee Santana), 84 of Lorain, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born November 24, 1928 in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, she has lived in Lorain for the past 62 years.
Fermina worked as a seamstress for Joseph and Feiss for 9 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Bible Lector at masses. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Daughters of Mary, Cursillo Movement for over 35 years, and served as Liturgy Commission Leader for over 30 years.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, knitting and reading.
Surviving are her sons, Jesus (Judy) of Vermilion, Jose (Carmen) of Lorain, and George (Rosie) of Arleta, CA; daughters, Ada (Jose) Diaz of Lorain, Carmen (Keith) Ferguson of Amherst, and Maria (Peter) Rivera of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and a brother, Esteban Santana of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her baby son, Lopez in 1957; parents, Ambrosio & Nicomedes (nee Nieves) Lopez; brothers, Ignacio, Ambrosio Jr., Basilio, and Rafael; sisters, Eusebia, Susana and Melin.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Monday at 8:45 am followed by mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
