Edward Carl “Eddie” Kurtz, age 78, of Lorain, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Lorain after a long illness.
Born on February 24, 1948, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Eddie moved to Lorain at an early age. After graduating from high school, he honorably served as a rifleman in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, earning distinguished awards including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Service Medal with one star.
Eddie had a passion for bingo and found joy in reading romantic stories.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Kurtz of Akron, and his grandchildren, Ariel Kell, James Kell, and Dallas Westover. He was also a beloved brother to Jimmie Boyett, Frank Boyett, Benjamin Kurtz, Mary Jane Coleman, Rose Anne Heitzenrater, Winona Steve, and Declia Kurtz.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Carl E. Kurtz and Dollie (née Bull) Kurtz.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 6:00 PM at Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, located at 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Lorri Bandagski, pastor of Bethel Chapel in Lorain, will officiate. Friends are invited to visit beginning at 5:00 PM. Inurnment will occur at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
