Echo Brown

April 10, 1984 — September 16, 2023

Echo Unique Brown, 39, departed this life unexpectedly on Saturday September 16, 2023. She was born April 10,1984 in Cleveland and graduated from John Hay High School. Echo was a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire and she attended the Columbia University School of Journalism in New York City.  Echo got her first job in 1999 and never stopped working hard. She had an incredibly successful one-woman show in the Bay Area, called “Black Virgins are Not For Hipsters” that Alice Walker called “stunning and powerful.” She was a brilliant and accomplished author, with two books published and was writing her third with Tyler Perry. Her writing was praised by the NYTimes and several other prestigious outlets.  Echo was also a successful motivational speaker with two TED Talks.

To those who had the privilege of knowing her, Echo brought joy to everyone she encountered. Her smile was radiant and immersed you into her universe. She always seemed like she knew a secret about the world that she wanted to share. In her acknowledgements for her first book she wrote, “Finally, to myself, the girl who never gives up, the girl who believed she could, so she did.” She leaves the world with an enormous footprint through her everlasting words and spirit. Her loved ones who will cherish her memory forever and always: her mother, April Brown of Lorain; her father, Edward Trueitt of Lorain; two brothers, Edward L. Brown of Cleveland and Reginald L. McFadden of Elyria; Nieces, Kahlia Steele and Leila D. McFadden; an Aunt, Sandra Wagner of Cleveland; an Uncle, Larry Brown; Cousins, Sabrina Wagner and Monika Turner, both of Cleveland; her beloved cat and soulmate, Baba Baby; many close friends from her school years, travel abroad, and life in many cities; and those who impacted her life in significant ways in her greatest times of need. She was preceded in death by her brother, Demetruis Brown in 2020; and an uncle, Gideon Brown.
