Dolores Zajkowski

Dolores J. Zajkowski (née Mroski), age 86, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Ganzhorn Suites in Avon, following a courageous ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on March 4, 1939, in Lorain to Stanley and Stella (née Pliszka) Mroski, Dolores was a lifelong resident of the city and a proud 1957 graduate of Lorain High School.

Deeply devoted to her faith and community, Dolores was actively involved in her church’s school, where she volunteered countless hours. She served on the Parent-Teacher Association and worked as an art teacher while her children were enrolled there. She was also employed in the X-ray department at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain.

A longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church until its closing, she later became a parishioner at St. Peter Parish in Lorain.

Dolores will be remembered as a loving, nurturing, and selfless woman who always prioritized the well-being of her family. A dedicated homemaker, she found great joy in cooking and creating cherished memories with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Lori) Zajkowski and Deborah (Brad) Dill; her grandchildren, Bradford (Alexis), Alexis, Brenton, Collin, Evan, Lauren, Antoinette, and Aaron; her daughter-in-law, Sue Zajkowski; and her brother, Darryl (Carolyn) Mroski.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Richard “Rich” Zajkowski, in 2024; her son, Richard “Rick” Zajkowski, also in 2024; and her parents.

Dolores’s passing is deeply mourned by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Cypress Hospice, whose gentle care and unwavering support brought comfort and peace to Dolores and all of us during a profoundly difficult time. Their kindness, patience, and presence felt like an extension of our own family, and we will always remember the compassion they showed in Dolores’s final days. Private services were held, with arrangements entrusted to Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Lorain.
