Catherine Birach (nee Hannan), age 88 of Amherst, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025 at Mill Manor in Vermilion, Ohio.
Catherine was an outgoing person who went to church faithfully every Sunday and studied Scriptures on a daily basis. She belonged to the Saints Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church in Lorain for the past forty-six years. For many years she volunteered for Bingo functions as well as setting up the church on Friday in preparation for Sunday Mass. She was also a faithful Good Will store shopper, finding that to be her favorite pastime whenever she wanted to get out of the house. She especially loved going shopping anywhere and having lunch with her daughters.
Catherine lived independently for the past 20 years since the passing of her husband. She attended every birthday party for her grandchildren along with all of the picnics and parties. She was a free-spirited person who loved all of her children more than life itself and there was not anything she would not have done for them. Love and support was always offered in her family's time of need. Catherine was very generous with all that she had and she was always offered a positive attitude when talking over troubles with her family and friends. A bright light in all of the darkness she will always be remembered and deeply missed by all of those who had known her.
Surviving is her son, Samuel Michael Birach; daughters, Susan Justice, Catherine (Brian) Smith and Sandra (William) Seals; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Samuel Birach; parents, Leo and Elizabeth Hannan; grandson, Jeramie Michael Los; granddaughter, Shelby Nicole Seals as well as 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
Visitation will be held at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church, 3056 Reeves Ave, Lorain on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Paul Monkowski will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
