Carlos Rivera Ortiz

Carlos Rivera Ortiz, age 92, of Lorain, died Sunday, February 5, 2023, at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a short illness.

Born March 20, 1930, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, he lived in New York before coming to Lorain over 50 years ago.

Carlos worked as a foreman at Hall Gardens Greenhouse in Olmsted Falls for over 20 years.

He loved gardening, playing dominos and watching wrestling.

Surviving is his wife, Aida (nee Mendez); children, Hilda of Puerto Rico, Angel Luis of Lorain, Caesar and Carlos Jr. both of New York, Calixto and Doris both of Lorain; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and nephews.  He was especially close to his nephews, Wiso and Pablo Serrano.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Rivera and Seferina Ortiz; a brother, and a sister.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, with a service at 4:00 p.m. Lorain’s Sacred Heart Chapel, Deacon Luis Maldonado, will officiate.
