Barbara "Bid" Ann Kakos (nee Arnoczky), age 87, of Elyria, OH, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria. Bid was born January 31, 1939, in Lorain, OH, and spent her later years in Elyria, Ohio. She was a lifelong resident of Lorain County.
A graduate of Clearview High School, Class of 1957, she served as the sophomore class vice president, was a member of the choir during her freshman year, participated in Future Homemakers of America in her freshman, junior, and senior years, and was a cheerleader in her junior and senior years. Bid was the first‑born grandchild in her family. She worked for ophthalmologist Dr. Greenburg and later at the Lorain County Court House in the Civil Division.
Bid was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan; she rarely missed a game and loved cheering for her team. She also enjoyed NASCAR racing; her favorite driver was Bill Elliott. Music brought her joy, and she attended Engelbert Humperdinck concerts several times over the years.
An animal lover at heart, Bid especially adored dalmatians, with her beloved dog Lucy being her last faithful companion. She enjoyed bowling and gardening. Bid was known for her Hungarian heritage cooking, baking, and decorating wedding cakes for family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Darlene Kakos and Kathleen (Art) Duttry, and her son, Mike (Buffy) Kakos; four grandchildren, Stacie Stump, Abbie Kokoski, Jackie Drennan and Jake Kakos; and three great‑grandchildren, Logan, Malayna, and Nora. Brothers, Jim (Sharon) Arnoczky and Frank Arnoczky. She was married to Michael Kakos. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Barbara Arnoczky, and her brother, John Arnoczky.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria, OH. Rev. Neil Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
She was a lifelong Catholic. May she rest in peace.
