Barbara Marie Ellis

Barbara Marie Ellis, (nee Mihalic), 85, of Lorain, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 23, 1919, in Lorain, she was a life long resident here. She attended Lorain High School and was a member of St. Vitus Catholic Church, Lorain, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and the St. Theresa Guild. She also attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and was a member of the Croatian Catholic Union Branch 17, and Keenagers at the Lorain Salvation Army. She was active with PTA's and Band Boosters while her children attended the Clearview School System.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed being with her family, serving at school banquets, telling jokes, doing word puzzles, and reading poetry.
She is survived by her sons; Michael Ellis of Elyria Township, and Gary Ellis of Vermilion, daughters; Barbara McAuliffe of Wilton, Connecticut, Patricia Matyi of Roswell, Georgia, and Marie Webster of Tallmadge, Ohio, 11 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren, and 2 great step grandchildren, a brother; Joseph Mihalic of Vermilion, and a sister; Mary Kramer of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James A. Ellis in 1983, sons; James Ellis in 1975, and Robert Ellis in 2003, parents; Blaz Mihalic in 1960, and Katherine Mihalic (nee Furjanic) in 1967, brothers; Robert "Duke" Mihalic in 1993, and Lawrence Mihalic in 1993, sisters; Catherine Smith in 1986, and Ann Brindza in 2002.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. On Wednesday, friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, E. 28th and Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Kevin Shemuga, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Contributions can be made, if desired, to the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 2702 Elyria Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44055 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
