Anthony A. Simo

Anthony A. Simo, age 84, of Elyria, died on Monday, April 25, 2005 in the emergency room at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, following a sudden illness.

He was born on June 7, 1920 in Lorain, he moved to Elyria in 1952. He was a 1938 graduate of Lorain High School.

He served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe and Africa.

Anthony was employed as a foreman at Lorain Works US Steel for over 30 years, retiring in the early 1980's. He had previously worked in the seamless #2 mill as a mill right.

He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Elyria, where he also served as usher. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local #1104. He was also a member of the Garfield Senior Center, and was a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout Leader for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Helen (nee Fidyk) Simo, daughters: Susan Morgan, of Westlake, Sally Diederich of Columbia Station and Laura Simo, of Avon, 2 grandchildren, sister: Sr. Suzanne Simo, S.S.S. of Miami, Florida and Julia Fradley of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Bertha (Farkas) Simo, son Steven in 1991, brothers: John in 1965, Charles in 1981 and Ernest in 1999.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 28, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a 9:30 a.m. mass at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Rd., Elyria, 44035. Rev. Fr. James Ols, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Elyria VFW Post 1079.
