Albert Volak

February 25, 1940 — April 21, 2021

Retired Lorain Fire Department Chief, Albert P. Volak, age 81, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake following a four-month illness.

Born February 25, 1940 in Lorain to the late Albert and Carmella (DiLillo) Volak, Al graduated from Lorain High School in 1958.  For seventy-five years he lived in Lorain, moving to North Ridgeville in 2015.

After serving two years in the United States Army, Al served the Lorain community on the Lorain Fire Department for 24 years, retiring as chief in 1994.

He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Lorain, and the Lorain Professional Firefighters Local 267.

Al was a talented classical guitar player who taught guitar for a number of years at Marotta Music Center in Lorain and played and sang vocals with the variety band JJ & Company.  He had many interests including traveling, sailing, skiing, ballroom dancing,  gardening, woodworking, bicycling and cooking, as he thoroughly enjoyed a good meal.

Surviving is his wife of 23 years, Judith (nee Trebus); son, Albert (Jennifer) Volak of Lorain; step son, Michael (Janet) Singer of North Carolina; grandchildren, Xavier, Sophia, Alexander, Brandon and Anna; brothers, Anthony Volak of Lorain and Bruce Hambly of Vermilion Township; and a sister, Mary Beattie of Lorain.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Aldemira "Mim" (nee Ambrosio) in 1990.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until the time of services at 6:30 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Copper Foster Park Road, Amherst.  Deacon Robert Dybo of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Lorain will officiate. Private Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the funeral home will be following specific guidelines to ensure the safety of all visitors. We ask that you enter through our main entrance of the funeral center, please pay your respects to the family, and exit through our gathering center door. Face coverings are required, limited seating will be provided for the service to ensure that a six feet separation is maintained.
