Alan P. Perhot

Alan Paul Perhot carved his name in the lives and hearts of those who had the privilege of calling him a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and of course, mechanic.
Al passed away peacefully at his home on January 7, 2016. Al was born on November 28, 1946 to the late Elizabeth (nee Zebruski) and John A. Perhot in Burgettstown, PA. Al grew up in Lorain, OH, graduated from Admiral King High School in 1946, and was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1967.
Al was the wonderful father of Marjean of Boston, MA, Nancy (Vincent) of Ashland, MA, and Paula of North Ridgeville, and a dedicated grandfather of three. He was the youngest brother of Rudy Perhot of Longview, TX, Sandra (Perhot) Nahm of Amherst, and Elizabeth (Perhot) Bomback of Tega Cay, SC. He was an uncle to two nieces and four nephews.
Al is best remembered for his jokes and honest work done on cars as the owner of Perhot's Auto Service, first on the East side of Lorain and for the past 28 years on Oberlin Avenue. In his free time, Al loved taking motorcycle rides with his favorite passenger, Jean Karnik, and his favorite moments were spent with his grandchildren, Aurora, Chloe, and Hunter Alan.
The family will receive friends to celebrate Al's life from 4-8pm on Tuesday, January 12th, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13th at 10am. Rev. Robert Sanson, pastor of St. Peter, North Ridgeville, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, please eat at Jackalope Lakeside or Diso's Bistro and get an oil change every 3 months or 3,000 miles. To send online condolences go to www.dovinfuneralhome.com.

So sorry to hear this news. My sister called to tell me then I found the obit online. Many good memories of Al and the entire family. Home was always open to friends and Mom always had the coffee pot on! I remember getting a white (with lots of oil on her back) cat from the 1st gas station and clearly remember when Marjean was born, Jan. 24th. They wouldn't let Al in to see me in the labor room because we weren't related, but we conversed thru the open door. Then Jennifer was born the 25th. Another gone HOME before his time.Thoughts, prayers & love to all,Clarice Fennell Atherholt

My deepest sympathy to Al's family, he will be sorely missed. I have been going to him for my oil changes and car repair for the last 20 years and always looked forward to going, He was always very helpful and I knew I would get an honest answer and repair on my car. He was also lots of fun to talk too. I'm really sad to hear of his passing. Irish Sue

I had the pleasure of knowing Al since he was working on cars on Garfield Blvd. Alwayshad a great sense of humor. There was no one that my wife and I would trust to work on our cars other than Al. As honest and trustworthy as anyone I ever met. We will really miss him as many others will.

To the Family of Al Perhot:We had the pleasure of knowing Al as a resident of our townhome community the past ten years. He was a very kind man and always greeted us with a cheerful voice and smile. May he rest in peace and his memory live through all who celebrate his life. You are in our thoughts and prayers.- The Murello Family

Marjean, Nancy and Paula, I am so very sorry for the loss of your father. I had the pleasure of knowing him for the entire time he was on the west side of Lorain. My mom began taking her cars to Al nearly 28 years ago (subsequently, so did I) and continued to until she passed away in October, 2015. We both loved your dad for his honesty, sense of humor and friendship. Your dad and I talked cars a lot (in the early days). Your dad was so very kind and generous. On a few occasions he was kind enough to give me tickets to the Grand Nationals. Most recently, about 3 years ago, my husband and I joined him in the loge and watched the races with him. We had a great time. I always considered him a friend and will miss him. I'm sure he is making my mom laugh now that he has joined her in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. You were all blessed to have such a wonderful father/grandfather. He loved you all so very much and talked about you all every time I saw him. With deepest sympathy,Kathy Pasterak
