Carmen E. Alvarez (nee Caceres), 93 of Elyria, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Specialty Hospital of Lorain following a lengthy illness.
Born August 17, 1924 in Camuy, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1953 and moved to Elyria several years ago.
Carmen was a homemaker and loved to garden, walking to the park with her daughter, fishing and enjoyed cooking and crafts. She especially cherished spending time with her family and the unity that it brought.
Surviving are her sons, Carmelo (Carmen) Alvarez of Lorain and David (Sue) Alvarez of Amherst; a daughter, Carmen I (Saturino) Gomez of Elyria; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Inocencio in 1998; parents, Primitivo and Balvina Ramos; and several brothers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 12:00 pm in Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Rev. Samuel Browning, pastor of Believers Spoken Word Tabernacle, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
