Vernon Lee Crowe, age 95, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Specialty Hospital in Amherst following a brief illness.
He was born on August 19, 1913 in Madison County, Kentucky. In 1953, he came to Lorain from Irvine, Kentucky.
Mr. Crowe worked at Standard Pipe Co. for almost 30 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Lorain Church of Christ. He enjoyed gardening, walking and playing ball and horseshoes.
Survivors include his son, Mason Charles (wife - Lioubov), of Parma; 2 daughters, Barbara Jean (husband - John B.) Hall and Vera Helen Martin, both of Lorain; 9 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph, of Xenia.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lizzie T. (nee Logsdon) in 1994; son, Virgil Lee in 2003; parents John Shelton and Susan (nee Metcalf) Crowe; twin sister Vera Richardson, sister Eliza Shanks; 3 brothers, June, Willie Joe, and Russell, Grandson, Jerald Hamby and great-granddaughter, Tara Uszak.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 5-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends will also be received on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Mr. James Hiser, minister of Lorain Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
